It’s been a long road back home in many ways after my three months sabbatical in India. It was time to return and I was ready to be home. But when one spends that long in a culture that is so other there are usually a few repercussions.
A re-entry period is necessary for most travellers. There’s tiredness from the long return trip (a fog-enforced layover in Hong Kong lessened our exhaustion this time), reverse culture shock (never heard of it until I had a firsthand experience), potential health issues like flu or colds, then finally the picking up of the pieces of one’s life at home. It usually takes about two weeks to feel fully back in your life.
This time the jet lag didn’t affect my brain as much, so I began pressing ahead with exciting new business plans and fun personal activities. I was enjoying myself, but the tiredness wasn’t dissipating as expected; my partner felt there was an emotional component to it. I suddenly realized I was grieving for all I’d left behind in India… especially the close relationships and wonderful experiences of McLeod Ganj in North India. McLeod Ganj, Upper Dharamsala is the home of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan government in exile; it’s often called Little Lasa or Little Tibet.
With this awareness came a sense that my heart was opening, and my memories came alive again inside me. My tiredness dropped away and I was able to move forward energized anew. The time away has refreshed me and taken me to a deeper place inside myself… a place of enhanced self-trust and confidence in the possibilities yet to come.
As mentioned earlier there are new things happening with the business. We are updating the website and will have many new offerings including: two coaching groups, Coaching for Caregivers and Living Midlife with Passion, virtual support groups, in-house salons, ongoing private sessions, and continued book offerings.
I am also going to be out promoting my book and talking to women about their caregiving experiences. I hope that this gives me the opportunity to meet some of you in person.
