I’ve often said to my clients that a good life is made up of small things. Each one may not have enormous significance in and of itself, but when combined they add up to quite a difference.
When you are a caregiver – particularly one who lives with her loved one – it may not be possible to revamp your lifestyle dramatically. But it is possible to make small changes, turtle step by turtle step.
The tips in this article, Caring for the Caregiver by Holistic Healthcare Services are not earthshaking – but they are about making those small changes. AND THEY WORK!
Try them and see.
What else can you begin to change in your life today?
Keep a rough journal of what you’re doing and how it’s helping you feel and think better. You owe it to yourself.
Sleep deprivation, one of my favorite ’soapboxes’, affects our health profoundly in many ways. When I was in my late teens my father used to tell me I was “burning the candle at both ends” in regard to my staying out late frequently and having to go to work the next day. The expression was so descriptive and so visual that it sticks with me today. Naturally I paid no heed to the warning! What could he possibly know that related to being me?
Now of course my tune has changed and sleep is very important to me. I like to get a good sleep each and every night if possible so I’ll feel decent facing my day. But I know that many other women, who have more responsibilities and a more demanding lifestyle than I do, can’t or don’t always do so. And it can take a heavy toll over time.
Dr. Christiane Northrup has an article up on her website connecting lack of sleep to weight issues. You might like to check it out:
