Or, TO CHANGE YOUR ENERGY, MOVE YOUR ASS & CHANGE YOUR HABITS!

This little shlumpadink is changing her stripes! Just a little though. In a previous post I wrote Guess I’m a shlumpadink and I don’t care. It was a reaction to Oprah’s definition of a shlumpadinka as a woman who’s given up because she doesn’t care how she looks anymore. My viewpoint was, and still is, that there’s entirely too much emphasis put on appearance in our North American society. Too much time and money as well. I opted for comfort, and if that’s sweats, so be it.

Lately I’ve found my energy low and have been challenged by the seemingly unchanging pattern of my life…both personal and professional. So I’ve decided to make lots of little changes on an ad hoc basis.

I remember how a very creative group therapist I knew many years ago always told us “If you want to change your energy, move your ass”. I’ve used that repeatedly over the years, both for myself and my clients. When we feel stuck, physically moving our bodies, even just from one chair to another, definitely changes our energy.

To this I’ve added, change your habits in small or large ways. So like George (Seinfeld – George’s World episode), I’ve decided to do the opposite of my usual habit often throughout my day.

Yesterday I wore one of my Indian shalwar kameez suits when I went out for brunch and later up the Coast to visit my mother. Yes, I stuck out like a sore thumb walking the streets of Gibsons, and in my mom’s care home. But I felt just a little different, a bit more put together, a bit reminded of India, and this changed my energy a little. And naturally everyone who commented on my outfit, including residents of the care home, loved it!

(Here I am in one of my shalwar kameez’s on the inland canals in Kerala, South India)

I invite you to change your habits, small and large, and change your energy by moving your ass!!
